IES Joan Ramis i Ramis is a High School located in Maó – Minorca. We think that international experiences are a very important part of the education of our students.

Tourism is one of the main industries of our island, so students must have a good level of foreign languages. At the vocational studies that we offer, Computer Science, students and teachers should be updated on the innovations in our field. Being able to read and to communicate in English is a fundamental part of our continuous apprenticeship.

Our High School teaches three foreign languages (our foreign languages department has 10 teachers): English, French and German. Besides our students learn our two official languages: Spanish and Catalan.

We are starting to teach part of our computer science subjects in the English language. The students in higher studies of vocational training in Computer Science will have a subject in or with English in each course.

Experience in international projects

We have some experience in European projects and we want to improve it in the following years. So far we have participated in:

  • Leonardo da Vinci: sending students to do a practical training abroad since the course 2001-2002. May 2002 and 2003:Leeds – UK, May 2010: Florence – Italy, May 2011: Kotka-Finland.
  • Comenius: coordinator center and mobilities in 2009-2010.
  • eTwinning 2010-11
  • VETPRO project: In 2010 two teachers went to Jyväskylä-Finland. The aim was to get an understanding of how vocational studies were organized.

Non-discrimination

Our centre encourages the integration and self-respect to all our students, from whatever gender or origin and so is established in our coexistence rules. We have a mediation team that helps to solve possible problems.

The centre can also help students with a precarious economical situation at home, helping them to accomplish the same activities as the rest of their partners.

Foreign students that do not speak our language get a special help to integrate as soon as possible into our activities.

Quality

Our High School has a Quality System (UNE-EN-ISO 9001:2000) and in 2009 got the Balear Quality award, implemented following the EFQM rules.

Our Computer Science studies of higher vocational education have a correspondence with ECT credits. Every module has its equivalent by law. Every academical course has 60 ECTs from the 120 ECTs of the whole studies.
